Shortly after that opening, in October 2006, South Point was acquired by the Gaughn family, owners of the El Cortez. When it opened, it had a striking resemblance to its sister property at the time, the Suncoast.
It opened in December 2005 and was known at first as the South Coast.
The South Point is a large casino in the south part of Las Vegas that caters to economy-minded visitors and neighborhood locals.
